AT WHAT AGE WOMEN SHOULD STOP WEARING MINI-SKIRTS?

At what age women should stop wearing mini-skirts?                           Assuming that you still have the figure for them, when is it wise to stop?
Skirts were the sartorial emblem of freedom for girls in the swinging Sixties and have been a fashion favorite of the young ever since. But now it seems women are happy to bare a lot of leg in a mini-skirt right up to the age of 40.
Mini-skirts are Not a good look with wrinkly knees, flabby calves, it's just a no-no. Mini skirts shouldn't be worn, because the first sign of aging that women have is that the skin on the kneecap begins to pucker slightly. That is when you know that you are losing the elasticity in your legs.
According to More Magazine’ survey an expiration date for a mini-skirt for the average female  is 35! But what if your body looks like Elle Macpherson, 48, Cindy Crawford, 45, Jennifer Aniston, 42, and Courteney Cox, 47, are all fans of the mini and all over the age of 35?
Should women stop wearing mini-skirts when they are in their 30th, 40th, 50th or even 60th?

Socialite Paris Hilton who is 30 years old and looks fabulous in her leather mini-skirt…

Heidi Klum, 38, supermodel, host, judge and executive producer of the reality show Project Runway, looks spectacular wearing mini.

She might be 41 and the mother of two-year-old twins, but Jennifer Lopez still has the body of a 20-year-old. She has some legs, doesnt she?
Best known for being the ex-wife of Sylvester Stallone, Brigitte Nielsen is 47 years old and looks great in short skirt.

An actress, supermodel, modeling agency head, and best-selling author Janice Dickinson who is 56 still look terrific for your age.

The modern, image-obsessed culture demands that women work hard to maintain a youthful appearance, spending hours in the gym and even undergoing plastic surgery. Therefore the expiration date for mini-skirt has moved from 20th to 30th, 40th and even 50th in my opinion.
So when women should stop wearing them? What do you think?

  1. A subject close to my own heart - i definitely dont buy them anymore and I love winter for its opaques but with a lot of squats and moisturiser i can get away with some sometimes - its down to the legs i think - on another age note i saw a recent pic of iris apfel in otk boots and a mini - admittedly with tights and she looked so good - maybe it is down to the attitude and how you wear it?? Age old question - literally!! xx

  2. So agree with you. It is about attitude and self-confidence. Plus women these days look much-much younger.

  3. If you've got it, flaunt it... as long its appropriate to the occasion;) Although, if i happen to have amazing legs at 50 and I have a teenage girl who models after me, I might bring down the hemline anyway so that she might maintain a conservative dress....

I must agree with the "if you've got it, flaunt it" attitude, as long as it's done so in moderation and a tasteful manner.

  9. If you feel comfortable in a mini skirt then go for it, I'm no Kate Moss and I still get my pins out regardless of my age

  13. I think a lot of things depend on how you feel about them. I think there may come a time when you shouldn't just because you can. Like bikinis look great on my younger sister......but she is 54 and has an almost 18 year old son.....call me a prude, but I don't think that's appropriate in front on teen boys. :) Now in the privacy of your own backyard......go for it!

  14. Thank you all for your comments! Love your attitude!
And yes, the more children Heidi Klum has, the better she looks:-)
@ nancygrace - I agree with you that in front of your children you should exhibit decorum.

Keep your confidence and shape and grow old wearing them! Age has little to do with fashion. Only what's inside one's head does. See Anna Dello Ruso and so many others :)

  32. This should solely depend on how fit the person is. I mean you shouldn't be looking like you are trying too hard, but if you are 50 and you have a body of 20 year old & can pull off the look then why not. Funny cuz I was thinking about this the other day when I saw a lady in NYC wearing a skirt & it just didn't go with her Mom look.

  33. This is a hot discussion topic amongst friends. I think it depends on the person. I have seen more than my fair share of 20-somethings & even younger wearing minis that looked SO awful. But if I look half as good as Elle, Janice, etc...at their ages—I'm going to work it! Ha! OR, look out knee-sag surgery here I come! ; O

  34. That's a very good question. I think it all depends on self-confidence and attitude. And I take myself as an example, as in my early twenties I did not wear short skirts or dresses, and now, approaching 30, I'm discovering them and loving to wear. But I doubt it I will wear them after 40 (even with a body like Jennifer Aniston's). In my opinion, after 40, style relates more to knee-lengths. But then again, it's a matter of attitude. :)Ada

  35. Weeeelll, I don't know if there is especific age to stop wearing them, but as long as tou look good in it, it should be okei, but I guess after 50 it should start going a bit down >.< lol

  37. Dear Erena,

You have a terrific blog and yes! of course I would love for us to follow each other so I am joining your list of followers!

Where the mini skirt is concerned, it depends on the state of the mind and body, if you have the pizazz and the body to pull it off, I say, "Yes, We can!" lol .. Obamania

  38. What is the age? A secret and just a number. But if you're married the things are more complicated. A woman in mini skirt is a available woman. In this way is interpreted.

  39. I have a friend who's 63, 5'6" and all leg. Her long legs look like those of someone half her age. She's sort of a hippie chick who likes to walk, drive and even perform secretarial work sans shoes. She currently doesn't own any mini skirts but rocks a pair of faded hort daisy duke cutoff shorts. So, if you've got it, by all means flaunt it.
